Edward Zitvogel, II
Ed Zitvogel was born and raised in Bridgeville, Delaware where he played cross country,
basketball, and baseball at Woodbridge High School. There Coach Ed achieved all conference
honors in baseball and cross-country. Following high school Ed moved onto
High Point
University where he played baseball. Ed also played for 3 seasons of semi-pro baseball
in the Eastern Shore Baseball league where we was a two time all star. Ed has been a counselor
at numerous baseball camps including University of Delaware camps. Ed has coached in the
Woodbridge Little League for seven years and he is the coach of the Greenwood Mennonite
School Varsity team. Coach Ed is also the founder of the First State Baseball Academy.
Mike Neill
Mike Neill was a stand out baseball and basketball player while growing up in Seaford,
Delaware. Mike was recognized as an All-State player in both Basketball and Baseball
while attending Seaford High School. Following high school Mike attended Villanova
University where he still holds 10 school records. Many of his records are from the
1991 season when he earned All American and Big East Player of the Year honors. He became
the second round draft pick of the Oakland Athletics in the 1991 amateur draft. Won the
NWL batting title his first year in the minors and was named Oakland's best hitting prospect
in a decade. He made it to the major League Baseball with the Athletics in 1998. He was
later traded to the Seattle Mariners. Mike was chosen as a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic
Team coached by Tommy Lasorda. He helped lead the U.S. to a gold medal with a Home run in
the Gold Medal Game. Mike is now retired from professional baseball and works as a financial
advisor with UBS in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 2005 Mike was inducted into the Delaware
Sports Hall of Fame. Mike is also a major part of the First
State Baseball Academy run by Coach Zitvogel.
Dan
Petrone
Dan grew up playing baseball in the very competitive Kent Island area. He has been coaching in the
Woodbridge Little League District for over 5 years but it seems like longer because he is usually
coaching multiple teams during the baseball season. Dan is also an experienced football coach in
the Woodbridge district. Coach Dan has always been a player favorite due to his positive motivation
of players. In 2004 Dan was awarded the Woodbridge Little League "Volunteer of the Year" award because
of all his hard work and dedication. Dan and his wife Jessie have 5 children-Daniel, Joey, Timmy, Amy,
and the newest member of the Petrone family, Hannah. Dan has also been on staff with First State Baseball
Academy.
Edward Zitvogel
Ed began his coaching career in 1980 with the Woodbridge Little League. He was an assistant
coach under Harvey Ellingsworth, for the Colts. Harvey told Ed that if he was
going to show up to all the practices he might as well help coach. And so it began... Ed coached
in the Woodbridge Little League for the next 11 years. He got back into coaching when his grandson
started playing Pee-Wee baseball and he and the other "Coach Ed" had an undefeated season finishing
12-0. Four years later, 6 of the 12 Woodbridge All-Stars came from that undefeated Pee-Wee baseball
team. He has also been on the First State Baseball Academy staff since its beginning. Ed has always
been and continues to be an avid supporter of every baseball team that his son, grandson, and granddaughter
have played on. He also has another "little slugger" grandson, Jacob Zitvogel, that will be coming
up through the ranks soon. Ed is very excited to be working with the Delaware Roadrunners!
Brooks Cahall
Brooks is joining the coaching staff this after serving as
scorekeeper last season. Brooks comes from a lacrosse
background where he coached youth lacrosse for the Camden
Lacrosse Club (we don't hold this against him). Brooks is
a student of the game and works to get the most out of each
player.
